Allyson Tessin, Ph.D., assistant professor in 91�Թ���’s Department of Earth Sciences, has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Award to support her research on how the seafloor and ocean interact in rapidly changing Arctic environments.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education Science of Reading Audit of educator preparation programs found that 91�Թ���’s preservice teacher literacy coursework was deemed “in alignment” with a score of 100% and no mandatory recommendations for improvement. 

Beginning fall 2027, Bio-Med Science Academy will relocate its grades K-6 programs to 91�Թ���’s Schwartz Center. The Schwartz Center, which opened in 1956 as the home of the 91�Թ��� School, a laboratory school that served generations of student teachers, will return to its original purpose as a school building.

Now a senior actuarial consultant at Nationwide Insurance, Zalewski recently reached a significant professional milestone — completing the multi-year process to earn the title of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Jessica Leveto's philosophy of teaching is that it requires compassion, understanding and patience. When mastered, it can create a transformative experience for students. This approach to education helped Leveto earn the 2025 Glenn Frank Distinguished Teaching Award.  

Two faculty members from 91�Թ���’s School of Media and Journalism have won top honors at the Oscar-qualifying St. Louis International Film Festival for a short film that tackles the complex issue of elder abuse. The film stars Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, known for his role in “Captain Phillips,” as a rideshare driver who encounters an elderly woman struggling to secure housing after being displaced from a nursing home.

A lecture series in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design changed the trajectory of Kent State senior Georgia Coulter's college experience, allowing her to study abroad with Frank Barkow, an educator, researcher and architect. 

Kent State Today showcases the university's most striking images from 2025, as captured by staff photographers Bob Christy, Rami Daud and Mike Rich, and their student colleagues, throughout a year of academic achievement, campus celebrations and student success. 

Last summer, 12 Kent State students in the university's Visual Communication Design program worked with Route Eight Studios to learn about the real-world challenges artists face in creating comic books. "Flash Fiction" is the result - an anthology of stories written and illustrated by students creators.

Kent State Men's Basketball (12-3) moved to 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play on Tuesday night, defeating the Bowling Green Falcons by a final score of 96-93.

91�Թ��� announced today that women’s wrestling will become the athletics department’s 20th varsity sport, marking a historic addition to the Golden Flashes athletics lineup and a milestone for collegiate athletics in Ohio. Kent State becomes the first NCAA Division I institution in the state and fifth in the nation to sponsor women’s wrestling.

The Kent State Men's Basketball team (7-1) extended their win streak to seven in a row on Saturday night defeating Penn State Shenango by a final score of 123-59. Nearly every Golden Flash scored as seven players tallied double-digits.
