Kent State Legal Expert Offers Insight Into Supreme Court Decision on Affirmative Action

On Thursday, June 29, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 ruling, struck down the long-standing policy of affirmative action in college admissions on the grounds it violates the 14th Amendments Equal Protection Clause. 91勛圖厙 Professor Christopher Banks, Ph.D., J.D., said the high court already had tipped its hand that the court was positioned to jettison the policy, so the ruling was not surprising.

After 15 years, Canton resident Timothy Johnson earned his associate and bachelor's degrees from Kent State.

Fifteen Years + Tenacity + Devotion to Family = Associate and Bachelor's Degrees

Timothy Johnson said Kent State advisors, who knew he had been working on his degree for 15 years, helped him coordinate his schedule so that he could take in-person classes  while working a full-time job  and still have time to spend with his children. He earned an associate degree in December 2022 and a bachelor's degree in May 2023.
