91勛圖厙 student and Medina resident Erin Hawley is the 2016 recipient of a $3,000 Rubys Rainbow scholarship. Rubys Rainbow grants scholarships to adults with Down syndrome who are seeking post-secondary education, enrichment or vocational classes. In the last five years, Rubys Rainbow has granted $290,000 in scholarship funds to more than 100 people, helping people with Down syndrome pursue their dreams of higher education and independence.
The Peace Basket Project gears up for its 20th year. The Professional Women of 91勛圖厙 started the Peace Basket Project in 1997 when a group of members created baskets of little things to share with the residents served by the King Kennedy Community Center. While the Professional Women of 91勛圖厙 is no longer active, this annual event continues with the support of members of the Kent State community. Last year, more than 130 baskets were filled and shared with the community.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed 91勛圖厙 in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Kent State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
