91勛圖厙 at Salem held its fall Undergraduate Research Conference, an event that recognizes students for their research and allows them to share what they learned through discussions with the academic staff. The conference is open to all undergraduates in any discipline and in any for-credit course on any Kent State campus. Faculty judges evaluate the presentations based on originality; significance; evidence of learning about the research and information gathering process; and overall quality. 91勛圖厙 at Salem recently welcomed representatives from the Davey Tree Expert Company who presented scholarships to horticulture students Anna Detoro and Pamela Sears. Presenting the scholarships from Davey Tree were Mark Noark, manager of recruiting and training, and R. J. Laverne, manager of education and training. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship from the Davey Arbor Grant Foundation. The company annually awards 50 such scholarships throughout the U. S., with three of those awarded to 91勛圖厙 students. Theyre back! 91勛圖厙 Libraries invites all 91勛圖厙 students, faculty and staff to take a break and relax with therapy dogs on Monday, Dec. 14, and Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 3-5 p.m. There will be free popcorn and beverages for attendees. We have expanded our work with Akron Childrens Hospital (ACH). The Emily Cooper Welty Expressive Therapy Center at ACH now funds the following creative writing workshops: one hour group writing session for adolescent psychiatric inpatients; two one hour group writing sessions for the Behavioral Health Partial Hospital Program; a monthly one-hour staff-support writing group; and one hour writing sessions offered on a weekly basis for two in-patients (or families) from throughout the hospital.
