EHHS Doctoral Alumna Receives AERA Award

Congratulations to Joanna Dickert, Ph. D., the 2022 recipient of American Educational Research Association's Advanced Studies of National Databases Special Interest Group Dissertation award.

Previously a student in the School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration, Dickert's dissertation is titled "An Examination of the Effects of Participation in High-impact Practices Using Propensity Score Analysis with Structural Equation Modeling."

The national competition included applicants who graduated between Jan. 1,  through Dec. 31, 2021, and used national or international databases in their dissertation study.

AERA is a national research society that strives to advance knowledge about education, encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.

In a fast-paced, reality TV-style competition, students in the Club Management class in Kent State’s Hospitality and Event Management Program worked in teams alongside industry professionals to create styled table settings themed around specific holidays. 

When 91³Ô¹ÏÍø senior Julia Michalak was in elementary school and middle school in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the idea of going to gym class made her sick to her stomach. Now in her final year at Kent State, Michalak will soon earn her bachelor’s degree in physical education and sport performance, with a goal to help other kids like her overcome their insecurities and learn to enjoy physical education.

Mathematics Education Professor Karl Kosko received the 2025 Kenneth Cummins Award from the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
